Wastewater may be part of the solution to Corpus Christi's drought. Here's a new proposal.

Corpus Christi officials are weighing a proposal to reuse treated wastewater as part of the city’s response to ongoing drought. Engineers from Ardurra Group and the Gulf Coast Water Authority suggested sending up to 16 million gallons of reclaimed water daily from the Southside to either the Nueces River for further treatment or directly to industrial users along Refinery Row.

Supporters described the project as a flexible “water tool,” while some council members voiced concern about public resistance to drinking reclaimed water, favoring its use for industry instead. If the city finalizes a partnership agreement and secures permits, the system could be built within 18 months to two years.
