Thirsty Tesla refinery could exacerbate Corpus Christi’s water crisis

Corpus Christi is grappling with a severe water crisis exacerbated by prolonged drought and escalating industrial demands. While residents face stringent water restrictions, industrial facilities like Tesla’s new lithium refinery continue operations without similar limitations, drawing significant concern from local communities.

“This is continuing this culture of sacrificing communities to expand the economy,” said Jake Hernandez with Texas Campaign for the Environment. “We cannot allow any more of our communities to become sacrifice zones for people who do not live here.”
